Ghost Hunting Equipment

Ghost Hunters use a wide variety of equipment to detect paranormal activity. A few basic tools used by ghost hunters include a digital camera, voice recorder, digital thermometer and EMF reader. Why these items? Each piece of equipment can help ghost hunters to detect or document phenomenon associated with the paranormal.

• Digital Camera – It is believed that the optics of the photo camera are more sensitive than the human eye. When equipped with an infrared lens  and flash, it allows the ghost hunter to see a light spectrum beyond the human eye’s capability.
• Voice Recorder – There are many times when a voice recorder can pick up voices or sounds that were unheard by the ghost hunter but were documented on the recorder. These sounds are called an EVP, electronic voice phenomenon.
• Digital Thermometer – When there is a sudden temperature change in a localized area, it is said to be energy displacement from a spirit or entity. With a thermometer this can be carefully documented by taking the ambient temperature of a room. When the temperature drops in one area compared to the ambient room temperature, it is called a “cold spot”.
• EMF reader – An Electromagnetic Field reader may be used to detect the presence of a ghost or entity. It is theorized that a ghost creates magnetic energy when it tries to manifest itself. This phenomenon is often accompanied by a power drain on batteries of equipment in the surrounding area.
• Laser grid – A grid can be set up in an area with frequent activity to see if any grids are being displaced by an entity that can not be seen by the naked eye.
• DVR surveillance system -  In an area of high activity, cameras can be placed to record activity when no one is present. The cameras can be plugged into a surveillance system to be monitored from a distance. If any activity is seen on monitors, then a ghost hunter can go to investigate.
• Flashlights – Flashlights can be used by a ghost to communicate with the ghost hunter. Simple yes or no questions can be asked by asking the ghost to turn a flashlight on or off. An alternative method is to set up two flashlights with one being yes and one being no.
• Franks Box – It is a radio set up to scan through the channel frequency’s automatically, to create white noise. The words that are produced are said to be coming from the entity or spirit.

Ghost hunters are continually looking for new equipment to be used in their searches.  New technology offers ghosts hunters the opportunity to detect and document paranormal phenomenon in new and exciting ways.
